Injection Molding of Plastic Sleeves for Construction Industry
At Midwest Plastics, we manufacture a product line of plastic sleeves for the construction industry. These sleeves are used during the pouring of concrete floors to leave perfectly round holes, typically for running electrical conduit or piping. We manufacture these sleeves in nine different diameter sizes. With high volume requirements of 100,000 or more units per month, injection molding is a fast, highly efficient, and cost-effective method for production.
We run this family of products on a 500-ton injection molding machine. The material of construction is recycled HDPE, which provides strength and rigidity while also being eco-friendly. We have nine different molds for producing sleeves that range in size from 1-1/2” to 12” in diameter x 9” in height. Our flexible production model is set up to handle frequent changeover and is adaptable to variations in demand. Quality analytics include in-process inspection and fracture and strength testing to ensure the sleeves exhibit a high caliber of quality that persists pour after pour. Turnaround time is typically three days per size.
As the volume requirements of these products began to ramp up, we purchased a third machine and added on additional auxiliary equipment to ensure we met production deadlines. We hold a pre-determined quantity in stock for the customer, maintain all molds in production-ready condition, and make adjustments to sizing as necessary.
